I understood that not a lot of people got the perspective behind this poem. Of course, its art, and open to interpretation, but I would not want you to miss the message. The poem is written from the perspective of someone who is deep in the abyss of prostitution and has lost all hope of coming out of it. Hopefully, this knowledge will add more meaning to the poem as you read it.
I twirl a toe,
I twirl a toe,
let out a sigh
Its practised
and perfected in a classroom
I was forced to enter
I am the clatter you hear
on glass bangles, slowly breaking
I heard the same clatter
in the shatter of my hopes
long ago
I am a lesser human
I pray to a lesser God, perhaps
who is as polymorphous
as the dark street I live in
that turns bright red at night
My God too, changes faces
comfortably
Perhaps she too is accustomed
to the only rule of my trade
'Faking it'
I loved music once
I'm deaf to it now
It helps to be deaf,
and blind,
and numb,
and to fake it.
P.S. Thanks to Daily Love for featuring one of my stories today. :)

Beautiful!
:)
wow this is tight with emotion...faking it will only take us so far though as soon enough we will miss ourselves, even if no one else does...
This is heartbreaking and feels so real to me.
And although I agree with Brian's comment, we may miss ourselves but if we fake it long enough, we may forget how to get back to the part of ourselves that we miss.
Tulika, I like your writing. Thank you for visiting my blog and introducing yourself.
oh yes...i know about faking it.
it resides on the edge of the vast nothingness.
a true heart breaking.
Brian, Stranger, I know, one might lose one's identity by faking it too long...that was the unsaid part of the poem...the irony of it...the poem is written from the perspective of someone who is deep into the abyss of prostitution and has lost hope and identity....thanks for appreciating the poem :)
Nance, thank you :)
Sad and beautiful!
:) thank you
beautiful with powerful emotions .. :)
:)
Till I read your comment that its written from a prostitute's point of view I was interpreting it differently... It was very nice.... From that point of view its too good again...
:) Thanks Kartik
Very deep, if a piece of writing can get etched in the readers' mind. The words surely got to be as magical and intense as this one was :)
Thank you Sourav! :) humbled :)
fully emotional...
yeah u r right sometimes we hide all inside and faux a smile.
:)
This well-expressed, thought-provoking poem tells a sad story.
hurt and lost... still trying, though. she's still there, i think.
Mary...thank you :)
Marian, I hope she is :) Thanks a lot..
Please do not juggje with difficult philosophical concepts in your poems.Keep it simple but sophisticated.
Great masters were eminent for their simplicity.
Thanks for the advice Amiya! Will keep in mind :)

Hello.
This is heartbreakingly sad.
You captured the depth of emptiness and numbness very well.
Thank you for sharing.
Tulika,
A very clever poem, with deep meaning.
Eileen
Oh so painful and emotional, captures so much unsaid.
Andy, Eileen, Sulthana, thanks a lot...
Glad you liked it :)
I love this, and very much relate to it.
I am most appreciative for the preliminary explanation. This indeed a beautiful and sad but very well penned poem.
Well depicted. People like her feel as though they have to discard emotion in order to do what they believe they must. The pre-poem explanation really helps to understand it.
Thanks Andy...Need of the explanation tells me I still have way to go in my writing. :) Glad you liked it..
Amazing Tulika.. I just loved this poem.. alot .. wonderful.. great piece...
Thanks a lot Divya :) Glad you liked it :)
You have really captured that kind of hopelessness and the level of giving up on things ever being any better. A sad reality for so many. Well done!
Yes sadly, what we can write about and get away with is a reality for many...thank you :)
Am so glad it got featured! :):)
